About the Author
Michael Garrett Thorne is an experienced educator and school leader with more than three decades of service in Maryland schools. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education from Towson University and a master’s degree in Teacher Leadership from Notre Dame of Maryland University.
Michael began his career as a middle school English teacher, serving students in both Montgomery County Public Schools and Baltimore County Public Schools for ten years. He then transitioned into school administration, where he led as a principal for 13 years in Baltimore County. In recognition of his leadership, he was named the NASSP Maryland Middle School Principal of the Year in 2011.
Since 2017, Michael has served as Executive Director of St. Elizabeth School in Baltimore, where he continues to champion education that supports all learners. He has worked with students whose abilities range from advanced to those who benefit from specialized support. His career reflects a deep commitment to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed.
